  • Markets: Choose which B2B company location markets, Region markets, or Retail location markets your discount is available to.

You can use a shareable link or a QR code to promote a discount on social media, in emails, and on landing pages. You can copy the link to share online or download the QR code to add to your receipts, displays, or for scanning at the register at a retail location.

For your online store, the default shareable link can direct customers to your store's home page, to a specific collection, or to a specific product page. The discount associated with the link or QR code applies automatically to your customer's next checkout cart, or to any active carts they have open. When a customer scans the QR code with their phone, it can direct them to your online store, where they can add eligible products to their cart and the discount applies automatically.

At your retail locations, staff can scan the same QR code in Shopify POS to apply the discount to the cart. Learn more about applying discounts using a QR code in Shopify POS.

Your shareable link or QR code can have only a single discount applied to it. Shareable discount links and QR codes work only for active discounts. Before you can create a shareable discount link or QR code, you need to create and save a discount code featuring the products or collections you want to link to.

If you run multiple discounts on a single product, then the most recent discount applies to your shareable discount links and QR codes.

Steps:

Desktop
  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Discounts.

  2. Click the name of the discount that you want to promote.

  3. Click Promote, then select Get a shareable discount code.

  4. Choose the page, product, or collection you want the link to open to.

    • The options available for you to link to depend on the specific products or collections included in your active discounts.
  5. Optional: To add tracking parameters to the link, select an existing marketing campaign. The campaign's UTM identifier and source are automatically added to the shareable link, so you can monitor the discount's performance in your marketing campaign reports.

  6. To copy the shareable link or download the QR code, do either of the following actions:

    • Click Copy link to copy the shareable link to your clipboard.
    • Click the Download icon to download the QR code.
  7. Click Close.

Mobile
  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. Tap Discounts.

  3. Tap the discount that you want to promote.

  4. Tap or , and then tap Get a shareable discount code.

  5. To copy the shareable link or download the QR code, do either of the following actions:

    • Tap the Download icon to download the QR code.

Applying a discount using a QR code for an online order

If the customer wants to apply the discount on an online order, the customer can scan the QR code with their phone to open your online store in their browser. The discount is automatically applied to the cart when the QR code is valid and the custmer adds products to the cart that meet the discount's requirements.

Redirect a shareable link from your store's home page

If you want a shareable link to direct customers to a page other than your store's home page, then you can manually add a redirect to the URL.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Discounts.

  2. Click the name of the discount that you want to promote.

  3. Click Promote, then select Get a shareable link.

  4. Click Copy link, then paste the link into a text editor.

  5. Change the URL extension from /discount/code to /discount/code?redirect=/new-path.

  6. Change new-path to match the URL extension of the page that you want to link to. For example: /discount/code?redirect=/collections/fresh-finds.

After you change the link's URL extension, you can post or embed it wherever you want to promote your discount.

How discount codes work with shareable links

When a customer uses a shareable discount code link, the discount combines with other eligible discounts already in the cart according to discount combination settings.

Review the following details on discount combination behavior in shareable links:

Filter discounts

You can apply the following filters to your discount list:

  • Status
  • Method
  • Type
  • Combines with
  • Start date
  • Times used
  • Eligibility
  • Market eligibility
  • Customer segment eligibility
  • Specific customer eligibility
  • Tag

If you use an eligibility filter, then you can't apply any other eligibility filters to your discount list, because a discount can't have multiple eligibility types assigned to it.

All filters display inline in the search bar, so you get a full view of the criteria that influence your search results. You can also use is/is not and or/and logical operators to create more advanced views with specific filter criteria.
